As the first term ended on 27 March 2015, most other under-graduates were packing their bags to vegetate on their parent’s couch for a couple of weeks, but not the Zoo 301 class! Accompanied by Dr’s Shelley Edwards and Dan Parker, 26 students spent three days at the Great Fish River Nature Reserve learning more about terrestrial zoology. More specifically, the group had hands-on experience in some of the techniques which are used to study vertebrate animals. From Sherman trapping to mist-netting, camera-trapping to “noosing”, pit-fall trapping to “rock-rolling”, these students got down and dirty, learning more about surveying vertebrates, especially the smaller ones.
