The students were accompanied by Dr's Billy de Klerk (Albany Museum), Dan Parker, Julie Coetzee, Unathi Heshula and Rosie Mangan. Whilst the main objective of the fieldtrip was to allow the class to "bond" with each other, there was also an interesting academic component focused on the fossils of the Karoo and lead by Billy de Klerk. The group stayed over in Nieu-Bethesda and Mountain Zebra National Park, visited several important (and renowned) fossil collections and tried their hand at locating plant fossils on the road cuttins of the Wapadsberg pass near Cradock.
