On 20-21 May 2024, Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 held a Sustainability Colloquium, under four main themes: Governance and Civil Society: Towards Reduced Inequalities; What sustains us: Biodiversity on and below land; Rays of hope through collaborations; Windows of opportunity for Rhodes sustainability. The event was opened by Dr Nomakwezi Mzilikazi, who emphasised that these celebrations are an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate past and present successes while also reimagining the institution's collective future.
As part of Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 RU120 celebrations, the Colloquium highlighted research and sustainable actions being undertaken in curricula, under projects, and across campus. The Colloquium aimed to raise awareness and to foster opportunities for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #17 - collaboration! The two day Colloquium brought together researchers from across faculties including Chemistry, Drama, Journalism, Botany, Environmental Science, Environmental Learning Research Centre, IWR, and others. Presenters shared insights and ideas for building collaborations that will enable our legacy to be one of working together to make a just and sustainable 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 and society as highlighted by the Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 IDP 2023-2028.
The organising committee was the Colloquium was across various faculties and departments and included Jo Dames (Dean, Science), Rosa Klein (Chemistry), Sukhmani Mantel (IWR), Tony Booth (Ichthyology), Harold Gess (Media Studies), Craig Peter (Botany), James Gambiza (Environmental Science), Cheryl Fisher (RU Project Administrator) and Masixole Jonono (RU Community Engagement).
