THE LELONA FUFU MEMORIAL BURSARY 2023

This Bursary will be awarded annually at Graduation to a student graduating in science with a BSc or BSc (Hons) who has overcome educational hardships to achieve very good results and who is continuing with further studies.

The Lelona Fufu Memorial Scholarship/Bursary was established in 2012 in response to the promise by the Dean of Science to a grieving father as the result of the tragic passing of a loved daughter, on the day of her anticipated graduation.

The 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网, with generous donor support from various donors, including staff and students, established a fund in her name to honour her memory and celebrate her life, as well as to yearly condemn, by awarding this scholarship/bursary in her name at Graduation, brutal acts of gender-based violence, and senseless acts of violent criminality that rob South Africa of its brightest and best daughters.

Field/ level of study:  Honours or Masters in Mathematics or Mathematical Statistics at Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网.

Eligibility: Preference will be given to students who has come through the Foundation Programme and who has majored in the mathematical or statistical sciences. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need. The academic achievements and merits of the student’s grades will also be taken into account. 

Value: Variable, up to a maximum of R90 000 per annum.

2024 SARB CEJ Scholarship

 

The South African Reserve Bank Centre for Economic Journalism has opened the application process for students interested in obtaining the prestigious South African Reserve Bank Scholarships in Economics Journalism.

The South African Reserve Bank is deeply involved in developing and training students, journalists, and economic visionaries in the South African media community. Funding is for full scholarships to exceptional applicants. The scholarship funding sits at the top level of academic support in the country and covers residence fees and course costs.

Potential applicants should have a passion for media and the economic landscape and be looking to use their knowledge and skills gained from their study to develop further dialogue around issues affecting citizens, communities, and the broader industry.

The Rodney Davenport History Scholarship 2023

Eligibility:

MAKABONGWE NDZWAYIBA BURSARY 2023

This Bursary was established in 2012 by the Vice-Chancellor in memory of the late Makabongwe Ndzwayiba who passed away after a long and courageous battle against cancer. He spent three very successful years in Winchester House, Allan Webb Hall at Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网. An outstanding student, a sub-warden and Community Engagement representative, Makabongwe was an inspiration to all who came to know him.

This Bursary will be awarded to support a student at Rhodes who, in the spirit of Makabongwe, has courageously overcome significant hardships.

We welcome Doctoral students who will work closely with their supervisors to produce cutting edge research in the following areas: African politics and political theory; African social and political history; water research, ecology, environmental education/science and climatic change; African arts and aesthetics; African music and musicology; African philosophy, and lastly Languages and Literature (African, English and French) with special reference to Africa and African Diaspora literature, gender studies and related themes. • The successful candidate must be able to display a genuine need for financial assistance.
• Although it is preferable, academic excellence is not a requirement.

Global Partnership Network Masters Scholarships in Partnership in Development Cooperation, the Global Economy and Knowledge Production

The Global Partnership Network (GPN) funds research on development cooperation, the global economy, and knowledge production. Students applying for this scholarship should be interested in one of the following three areas (all of which fit broadly within the GPN’s areas of interest):

• The politics of NGO work;
• Post-development thinking and Africa; and/or
• Alternative knowledge production about Africa.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Masters & Doctoral Scholarships 

in

History, Memory and Trauma in African Fiction

The focus of Dr Thando Njovane's project is History, Memory and Trauma in African Fiction. Working within this interdisciplinary lense, the project investigates how works of fiction may help us theorise trauma, history and memory from an African perspective. This may include comparative studies with other postcolonial, post-conflict and/or African-American fictions in which questions of race and/or embodiment feature prominently. Masters and PhD candidates interested in interdisciplinary research which examines the relationship between fiction and any combination of the central concepts (history, memory and trauma) are invited to apply for:

MA scholarship (two years): R105 000.00 per annum

PhD scholarship (three years): R135 000.00 per annum

Eligibility: Preference will be given to designated groups.

Requirements: Honours degree in English literature/Literary Studies for MA applicants, and MA in English literature/Literary Studies for PhD applicants (candidates must have studied or show a keen interest in African literature or comparative postcolonial literature). Candidates may select to work on either the short story, novels or poetry.

Makhanda Circle of Unity Scholarship 2021

The Makhanda Circle of Unity Scholarship has been established by the Makhanda Circle of Unity Forum for the fulfilment of an inclusive and purposeful approach for the socio-economic development of Makhanda and its surrounds, which aims to bring together all relevant and interested voices, communities and stakeholders in a spirit of problem solving, partnership and civic participation.

Applications are invited from academically strong candidates who intend registering for a PHD degree (full-time in attendance) in 2021.

Eligibility: Applicants must be residents of the Sarah Baartman District*

The area of research must be in one of the following seven areas of focus by the CoU:

1. Process Cluster: To develop a constitutive framework for the Forum. This includes the basis for consensus building and to formalise structures and provide for a governance system.
2. Accountability Cluster: To address monitoring and reporting for citizenship campaigns and to improve citizens monitoring and oversight over the municipality.
3. Local Economic Development Cluster: To enable an effective marketplace for ideas, products and services and find the best options for job creation.
4. Community Engagement and Marketing Cluster: To create and sustain platforms for messaging, promotion of cohesion, Makhanda brand development and community involvement.
5. Safety and Security Cluster: To focus focuses on bylaws, prevention and education.
6. Education Cluster: To strengthen Makhanda as the heartland for education, creativity and tourism.

The research programme is concerned with African popular modes of representation and interpretation, and especially with the ways in which local specificities and global imaginaries are articulated through popular genres. It seeks to engage critically with various knowledge productions that are embedded in local cultural forms.

The South African Reserve Bank Centre for Economic Journalism has opened the application process for students interested in obtaining the prestigious South African Reserve Bank Scholarships in Economics Journalism.

The South African Reserve Bank is deeply involved in the development and training of students, journalists, and economic visionaries in the South African media community. Profile
Suitably qualified and experienced candidates may now apply for one Ph D bursary as of 2020 to 2022 and one Masters degree bursary as of 2020 until 2021. We welcome Doctoral students who will work closely with their supervisors to produce cutting edge researches that will bring new insights to our cross cutting themes such as:
