Dr Aliou Badara Camara has over 7 years experience in Civil Engineering. Currently, Aliou Badara is a Associate professor at Ecole Polytechnique de Thiès (EPT), focusing on Calculation of Structures, Metallic Construction and Numerical Simulation. He is multilingual, fluently speaking Soninke, Wolof, Bambara, French, English and lives by his motto “I rise by uplifting others”. Aliou Badara is committed to training young Africans in the STEM domain because we are the future of this beautiful continent and is playing his role in helping Senegal to have qualified workforce in the Civil Engineering domain.

Research:
The research carried out and the results obtained from my thesis concern the analysis of the fatigue behavior of bolted joints. This assembly technique performs well in terms of static dimensioning. However, in the case of variable amplitude loading, fatigue behaviour is more complex to validate, due to the coupled problems that can arise: progressive damage to the various elements of the assembly, progressive loosening of bolts, stress concentrations, particularly at the screw thread root. Nowadays, when the lightening of metal structures is becoming an economic issue, the reduction in the quantity of raw material used makes it necessary to take account of the fatigue phenomenon right from the design phase, in order to optimize the distribution of this raw material while guaranteeing the reliability and safety of bolted assemblies. The scientific question of how to obtain fatigue properties and fatigue sizing of joint components is an important one for several reasons. From an academic point of view, it presents difficult scientific challenges in terms of both experimental identification and theoretical modeling. From an industrial standpoint, this is a cross-cutting issue that concerns all sectors of activity (naval, offshore, automotive, energy, healthcare, railways, civil engineering, etc.), and opens up an indispensable field of product optimization. Our work has focused in particular on jointed connections (in the rail industry), tee sections (in steel construction) and mooring chain for Floating Wind Turbine (FWT). Our research work is divided into two aspects: uni-axial fatigue and multiaxial fatigue. The outlook for the development of our research activities remains varied. They are in line with the continuity of our work and the diversification of our research areas.
