Institute for Nanotechnology Innovation (INI) staff and students presented papers at the 12th International Conference on Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (ICPP-12) in Madrid, Spain – 10th to 16th July 2022
Participants included Distinguished Professor T Nyokong (Invited Speaker), Prof J Mack (Invited Speaker), Prof P Mashazi, Dr J Britton, Dr M Nemakal, Dr L Mpeta, Mr A Magadla, Mr S Mgidlana, Mr S Mkhondwane, Ms N Ndebele, Ms L Nene, Ms R Nkhahle, Mr N Nwahara, Ms Y Openda, Prof S Khene (former staff member), Dr M Managa (former Postdoc).
The group presented work on the synthesis of porphyrins and phthalocyanines and their modifications using nanoparticles for various applications including catalysis for pollutants degradation, non-linear optics, electrochemistry for sensing, photodynamic therapy for antimicrobial inhibition and cancer eradication as well as sonodynamic therapy for cancer treatment. Scientists and researchers from around the world had the opportunity to also learn a lot about phthalocyanines and porphyrins and related molecules from the INI group.
