NALSU NEWS: Congratulations to Dr Mattie Webb from the Neil Aggett Labour Studies Unit (NALSU) team.
NALSU congratulates Dr Mattie Webb on being awarded a tenure-track faculty position at the Virginia Military Institute, USA. Mattie will be teaching in United States history, and on "The United States of America in the World".
As a Fulbright Fellow, Mattie was based at NALSU, Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网, South Africa, for much of her PhD fieldwork. Part of NALSU's project is to support postgraduate students and emerging scholars in labour studies.
Mattie's thesis examined how trade unionists and black workers in South Africa leveraged workplace codes of conduct to affect local and international policies. Entitled "Diplomacy at Work: The South African Worker, US Multinationals, and Transnational Racial Solidarity (1972-1987)", it revealed key dimensions of transnational linkages and workers 'internationalism. Mattie subsequently won a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Yale 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网.
Mattie recently published "An Exercise in the Art of the Possible": Waging a Battle Against Apartheid in the South African Workplace" in the journal Enterprise & Society (volume 25, number), and is currently working on a book. She is also a NALSU Affiliate.
