Daniela Heunis is Senior Lecturer specializing in Flute and Music Education at the Department of Music & Musicology, Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网, Grahamstown, Republic of South Africa.

 

She graduated from Stellenbosch 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 with a BA (Flute Performance), a BMus Hons (Music Education) and from Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 with a MMus degree. She holds Licentiates from the 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 of South Africa in Flute Performance and Teaching.

 

Prior to her appointment as Lecturer at Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 in 1985, she held a similar post at the Wellington Teacher's Training College.

 

As a flautist she has been a member of chamber groups such as the Rhodes Trio (1986-1996) and Zintathu (2003-2004), performed solo concerts such as the “Flute Gems Series” (2000-2002) and took part in combined-arts performances such as the Heartlands Production combining poetry, visual art and music (2002-2003). As viola player she has been a member of the Eastern Cape Chamber Orchestra, the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 Orchestra, and also partake in a string quartet performances at Graduation functions and on other occasions.

 

She conducted the Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 Chamber Choir (1993, 1996) and has been a member of the Andrew Tracey Steel Band (1986-1993).

 

She has adjudicated a wide range of eisteddfods and competitions such as the  ATKV Prelude & Forte Competition, both String and Wind Sections of the 1820 Foundation Eisteddfod in Grahamstown, the Port Rex Lions Eisteddfod in East London, ECSMO ( Eastern Cape School Music Organization) Choir Competitions as well as the singing competitions of various local schools. She has regularly presented master classes including for teachers from local disadvantaged schools organised by the ECSMO in Grahamstown and flute master classes at Rhodes College, Memphis, Tennessee, USA.

 

She has delivered academic papers at occasions organized by the Department of Education, Culture & Sport, Western Region of the Eastern Cape (1997), "The Phenomenon of Singing" Sharing the Voices International Symposium at the Memorial 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 of Newfoundland, Canada (1997 & 1999),  the Music Education Research Development Workshop which preceded the International Society of Music Education's 23rd World Conference in Pretoria, RSA (1998), at  the International Symposium on Choral Conducting, Roehampton Institute, London, United Kingdom (2000), and in Grahamstown at the Conference ‘Conversations about Assessment (2006), the SASMT (South African Society of Music Teachers) Conference (2007), SASRIM (South African Society for Research in Music (2008) and at the Cultural Diversity in Music Education conferences in Seattle (2008) and Sydney (2010).

 

She has presented posters at the conference of the South African Association of Women Graduates in Cape Town (2002), Forte 2004 in Toronto, Canada and at the Third International Conference on Arts and Humanities, Honolulu, Hawaii, United States of America (2005).
