This course is intended to enhance the spoken, written and visual communicative competencies of Accounting students usually in their second academic year at Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网. Professional Communication for Accountants is designed, managed and taught mainly by the Department of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies in collaboration with the Department of Accounting. The course grew out of Professional Communication, a course initiated by the Commerce faculty in response to complaints from the business sector that their newly employed graduates lacked adequate language and communication skills. Recently, in response to changes to the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) Competency Framework, the faculty agreed to initiate a shortened version of the course tailored to Accounting students’ needs. Thus this course, whilst exposing students to some linguistic theory, is essentially experiential and practical. Its aim is to develop the communicative competence of graduates for work in the accounting sector.
Professional Communication for Accountants is a one-term course, offered in Term 3 each year. It is assessed partly through the Principles of Professional Accountancy Integrated Assignment. The final submission date for this assignment is in Term 4.
