Research:
My current research project focuses on word order and information structure in isiXhosa, and is financed by the Swedish Research Council. I have worked on different aspects of isiXhosa since 2015, including a post-doc for three years with Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 as the host department. The aim of that project was to describe and analyse morpho-syntactic microvariation in the Eastern CapeI am currently based at the 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 of Gothenburg, Sweden, but I travel regularly to South Africa to conduct fieldwork and to collaborate with other scholars in the work on isiXhosa.

My research interests center around descriptive linguistics, especially morphosyntax in relation to information structure. I take a strong interest in language typology, comparative studies, dialectal variation and language contact. I’m a field linguist and like to take the social and historical context in consideration when analysing a language. My PhD thesis is a (first) grammatical description of Ndengeleko, focusing around the phonology, as well as morphology of the verb and noun phrase.  Ndengeleko is a Bantu language spoken in the coast region of Tanzania to the south of the capital Dar es Salaam, and a distant relative to isiXhosa.
