About

The Living Constitution workshop focuses on the importance of the South African Constitution, how it protects human rights and also on the importance of learners becoming engaged and active citizens. The workshop is called A Living Constitution or ‘UmGaqo siseko ophilayo’ in Xhosa. The overall aim of the project is to make young people aware of their rights and, in the Dean’s words, hopefully, lead to more engaged, aware and proactive citizens in future. The booklet prioritises the most important issues that involve school children and critical and active participation from the children will be encouraged via the provision of suitable practical examples based on children’s everyday lives alongside the rights contained in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996.

The authors of the Living Constitution Booklet are Prof Rosaan Kruger, Paul Eilers and Amanda Phephu.
