At precisely 15h30 on 23 February, 2024, a historic anniversary drone picture was taken as the bright African summer sun smiled down on hundreds of gleeful and cheering students and staff members huddled at the Great Field in a spectacular RU120 formation.

It was a breathtaking and unrehearsed cultural display commemorating the 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网’s 120 incredible years of scholarly excellence, a testament to its storied heritage and legacy, and a symbol of unity and burgeoning pride among all participants.

Apart from the enthusiasm, the occasion, a highlight in the RU120 project calendar, also displayed the distinctive Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 spirit, commitment, and resilience. People started gathering in the early afternoon under the scorching sun, meticulously positioning themselves to form the letters and numbers representing a significant milestone in the institution's history.

Their energy on the sun-kissed field was palpable, motivated by chirpy cheerleaders. Every participant played their part, adding colour and flavour to the occasion with synchronised chants, spontaneous singing, occasional dramatic dance moves, and cartwheeling.

In the build-up, the air on the soon-to-be-renamed field is thick with anticipation. As the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sizwe Mabizela, RU120 Project Sponsor, Prof Peter Clayton, Registrar, Prof Adele Moodly, and senior staff members entered, all dressed in purple branded attire, the cheering reached a crescendo. They joined in, slotting neatly in the formation.

The moment even transcended the immediate celebration, promising to inspire something about the future of the institution's community and the true South African national pride egged by young people united in their colourful diversity. It stirred something unforgettable and desirable.

A well-deserved treat for all participants followed the successful event. In the spirit of fellowship and celebration, everyone was treated to boerewors rolls and soft drinks, adding a communal and festive atmosphere to the day. It was a fitting end to a special gathering in which something unique, memorable, and deeply symbolic was achieved.
