The Italian–born, feminist scholar, and activist, Prof Silvia Federici will be running workshops for students and young people at Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 in September, talking about her work and its significance for contemporary South African politics.
In preparations for the workshop, Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 is hosting a reading group that will discuss her latest book, Revolution at Point Zero. The book is a collection of short essays and each touches on a different but related topic.
Prof Federici’s work is rooted in feminist, autonomist, and Marxist traditions that emphasize the centrality of people’s struggle against exploitation and of autonomous forms of social cooperation as driving forces of historical and global change.
Her very accessible and incredibly inspiring work focuses on women, land, crisis and war, and the commons.
She is a Professor Emerita and Teaching Fellow at Hofstra 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网, where she was a social science Professor.
If you’re interested in finding out more and joining the reading group, come to the Sociology Seminar Room this Wednesday, 24 July at 18:30 where we will be introducing Silvia’s work and literature and collectively planning the format of the reading groups.
