Promising Rhodes piano student goes international

Mia Pistorius, a third year piano student in the Rhodes Music Department, has recently been accepted to attend international concert workshops in Bulgaria and Germany.

Europe has a tradition of hosting intensive summer schools for musicians, designed to give some of the most promising young pianists in the world the chance to study with the most renowned teachers of the time.?

Mia has been chosen to attend two of these summer schools: the Varna International Piano Master Class in Bulgaria, and the Goslar International Concert Working Weeks in Germany.

Enrolment for both these courses is limited, with 30 students attending the Varna master classes, and 10 students attending the Goslar classes. Thus, Mia will be one of only a few privileged pianists to receive lessons from renowned pianists and pedagogues as Joseph Banowitz, Adam Wodnicki and Arie Vardi.

Participation in these courses includes performances in the host cities, with the goal of exposing young musicians to an international concert platform.

Before her departure, Mia will present a fundraising concert to help cover the costs of such an expensive, but exciting, opportunity. We warmly invite you to support this worthy cause on Saturday, 31 July, at 19h30 in the Beethoven Room, Rhodes Music Department.

The programme to be presented will include works by Beethoven, Mozart, Ravel, Scriabin and Gubaidulina.

Admission: R50.00 (adults) R20.00 (concessions) (Available at the door)

Please contact the Rhodes Music Department for further information.
