The award winning First Physical Theatre Company presents “New Voices” at this years National Arts Festival. New Voices is an annual performance platform giving young choreographers the opportunity to showcase exciting, innovative and dynamic work under the artistic direction of Gary Gordon.
2010’s New Voices feature works by Masters students Nadine Joseph and Gavin Krastin and a collaboration between Honours students, Nicole Theunissen and Danielle Bowler. In addition to this, the First Physical Youth Company will be choreographed by resident performer Levern Botha, assisted by Sifiso Majola and Siya Mbambaza.
Since the establishment of the company, First Physical has been both committed to supporting and highlighting emerging choreographers, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in South African contemporary dance. The New Voices programme was launched in 1993, making this year the 17th year of the programme as a new generation of promising young choreographers showcase their exciting, unusual and arresting choreographic experiments.
With diverse influences, this year’s unique performance programme promises to be one with innovative, provocative, unusual and inspired choreography. This well-established choreographic event is must see, as in the tradition of First Physical Theatre Company, it is guaranteed to be at the cutting edge of South African choreography
