Summary:

Water is one of the pivotal and the most fundamental and indispensable of natural resources globally. Fundamental to overall quality of life. Water, although renewable, is also a finite resource, distributed unevenly both geographically and through time. Water can also a limited factor for the social development and economics growth of a nation. In South Africa, located largely in a semi-rid region of the world, water resource in global terms, scarce and extremely limited in extent. Prosperity for South Africa solely upon the sufficient utilization and sound management of the mineral resource with water is paramount. The study uses the PGIS workshop to collect local and technical knowledge for the stakeholder from the social groups in the catchment to argue that water related and ethical implication.

Research:

Mapping key drivers of ecological change and analyze equity dimensions of ecosystem (dis)services flow in the Buffalo River catchment. To gain strategic insight into the Buffalo River catchment ES and key drivers of ecological change, the integration of the knowledge and value of relevant Local and Technical Stakeholders will be collected to give a map outcome. Significantly related Scientific literature will be examined and analyzed to distill the equity dimensions of the ecosystem (dis)service flow.

The well enhanced ecological knowledge of the study area to policy and decision maker to guide and hypothesis-generating stage for science and research project.

The topographic map for the catchment, suitable for this study owing to its two-dimensional surface and ecological features displays. A purposive sampling strategy will be applied to invite relevant stakeholders from the provisional, national, and local regulatory bodies.

The workshop invitation cum the study brief introduction, aim and objectives will be sent to the regulatory Stakeholder offices five weeks prior, and followed by consecutive reminders before the day.

The workshop outline will contain drafted open-ended questions about the key drivers of ecological change and ecosystem (dis)services of the catchment to be discussed
