I am a researcher at the Institute for Water Research, Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网. I hold a PhD degree in microbiology. My PhD was on mining enzyme genes that can be used to enhance the degradation of lignocellulosic biomass for the production of valuable products such as bioethanol from woodchips metagenome.
Currently, I am leading a project funded by the Water Research Commission. My current research involves applying microbial ecology methods, such as metagenomics and metatranscriptomics to understand the dynamics of microbial pathogens and antibiotic resistance determinants and to track their source and fate in different environments. Also, I have interest in integrative health research, linking laboratory research to policy outcomes and practice. On the other hand, I have special interest in discovering application driven functional genes of microorganisms in general ecosystems that are useful for biotechnology.
