GENERAL INFORMATION

The objective of the programme is to promote sustainable development and poverty alleviation by increasing the availability of trained and qualified high-level professionals in Africa. The programme aims to strengthen co-operation between higher education institutions in Africa with the view of increasing access to quality education that will encourage and enable African students to undertake postgraduate studies, and to promote student retention in the region along with the mobility of staff (academic and administrative) while increasing competitiveness and attractiveness of the institutions themselves. More specifically the programme aims to:


(a) provide access to higher education for students including those from disadvantaged groups;
(b) facilitate cooperation on recognition of studies and qualifications;
(c) contribute to the improvement of the quality of higher education through the promotion of internationalisation, and harmonisation of programmes and curricula within participating institutions;
(d) enhance the international cooperation capacity of Higher Education Institutions in African countries;
(e) promote cooperation between sending and host institutions;
(f) enable students, academics and staff to benefit linguistically, culturally and professionally from the experience gained in the context of mobility to another country;
(g) enhance, in the medium term, the political, cultural, educational and economic links between the participating countries.

Eligible Countries are listed below by Regions of Africa Countries:

  • Central: Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Congo (DRC), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and S?o Tomé and Principe
  • Eastern: Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania
  • Northern: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Morocco
  • Southern: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe
  • Western: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo

  • Ensure that you are familiar with the language of tuition at the host institution.
  • Carefully consider the identified programmes and areas of excellence in each partner institution.
  • Ensure that you have the necessary academic background in terms of study areas/degrees before you apply.
  • Be aware of the real cost of living at each partner institution and analyse it, considering the monthly subsistence of the scholarship.
  • Consider the need to adapt to different cultural realities and different climate conditions.

  • Monitor the individual academic progress of scholarship holders registered at their institution.
  • Provide the co-ordinating institution with student quarterly progress reports.
  • Ensure gender balance (with particular emphasis on the selection of women), equal opportunities and the participation of disadvantaged groups (disabled students, economically disadvantaged students) in the selection process.

To be eligible for support from AWARMN, applicants must:

  • be a national of an African Union member state and resident in Africa at the time of application.
  • meet both institutional and partnership requirements for admission
  • not have benefited from any form of previous support from Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, or Intra-ACP academic mobility scheme.
  • Must be prepared to move from home country to another country where AWARM has a partner institution. This applies to foreign applicants who reside in a country with AWARMN institution. For such applicants, you must then consider applying to a third country. For example, you are Ugandan, but reside in South Africa or have studied in South Africa. You can not apply to Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 or Makerere.

ACADEMIC INFORMATION

You will need to submit the following:

  1. Certified copies of academic degrees and official transcripts
  2. A 2 paged curriculum vitae
  3. A formal identity document e.g., passport, national identity card, driver's license or any other officially recognized form of identification indicating your nationality
  4. A 250-word motivation stating why you should be awarded a scholarship
  5. Two reference letters (one academic and one non-academic). The academic referee must be able to attest to your academic standing.

Degree-seeking (long-term mobility that leads to an award of a degree upon successful completion of all requirements at the host institution).

Credit-seeking (short-term mobility that leads to the award of credit(s) at the host institution and recognised at the home institution).

The partnership is developing an MoU to regulate the recognition of credits among the partner institutions, with due regard to institutional context and national regulations.

Target Group 1: These are students who have obtained degrees or are currently studying in one of the AWaRMN partner institutions.

Target group 2: These are students who have obtained degrees or are studying in an institution other than those within the AWaRMN partnership.

The language of instruction is English. A working knowledge of English Language is required. Candidates are expected to have prerequisite knowledge in the subject areas they have chosen for credit-seeking mobility.

The deadline for submission of applications is 22 February 2023.

Submitted applications will be acknowledged within 3 working days.

Applicants will be informed about the outcome of the competitive selection process by email on or before 22 February 2023.

LOGISTICAL MATTERS

MONEY MATTERS

The value of the scholarship is in Euros. The scholarship covers:

  • Roundtrip flight tickets and visa costs
  • Participation costs such as tuition fees, registration fees, application fees, bench fees and other related costs
  • Comprehensive travel insurance (health, accident and travel)
  • A monthly subsistence allowance for the mobility period
  • Once off settling-in allowance at the beginning of the mobility
  • Research costs for students whose mobility exceed 10 months.
  • Extra subsistence allowance corresponding to a single monthly allowance for female students per academic year for mobility equal or longer than 2 academic years.
