Why Exchange
Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 recognises the extent to which the members of our International community and the connectivity we have with them enrich the institution. The 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 appreciates the diversity of cultures that this connectivity brings with every visiting student, and it is for this reason, amongst many, that we value the student exchange and study abroad programmes that we currently have in place. Every year Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 opens its doors wide and connects with Universities in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and North America to give Rhodes students and students from our partner Universities the opportunity to read the world book and hopefully write their own chapter.
WHAT IS A CREDIT-BEARING SEMESTER ABROAD/ EXCHANGE PROGRAMME?
This type of programme offers Rhodes student the opportunity to attend a partner institution for the duration of an academic semester. Students will be exempt from attending Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 for the full equivalent semester, i.e. February - June or July – November.
HOW THE EXCHANGE WORKS?
While on exchange at the host institution, students will be expected to register for and complete a number of Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网, faculty approved courses, in furtherance of their degrees at Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网. Upon their return, the approved courses successfully completed while on exchange will be incorporated into the student's Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 academic transcript. Exchange students will not be eligible for a degree at their host institution while on exchange.
Choosing a Destination
Two things should determine your choice of destination:
- Course content and credits – during an exchange programme, you must attain credits for all the subjects that you are taking at Rhodes. It is imperative that you take courses abroad that are approved by the relevant Heads of Department at Rhodes. Some destinations are only viable for students taking certain subjects (e.g. Commerce Students) and some degrees (LLB) and subjects (Law) have strict limitations on where you go. Be sure to consult with your Head(s) of Department when deciding where to go. In certain cases, the International Office will advise you against going on exchange if it will negatively impact on your study path.
- Financial implications – all exchange programmes cost extra, but some cost more than others. Be sure that you know what expenses you will be expected to cover when going on exchange. If you are uncertain, visit the universities’ websites and talk to the international officer at Rhodes.
