Hobson Hall Annual Awards

Each year, Hobson Hall proudly celebrates student achievements, contributions, and unique talents through a series of prestigious awards. These awards recognize excellence in academics, leadership, sports, and community engagement, reinforcing our commitment to fostering a thriving and inclusive residence culture.

Academic Awards

These awards honour exceptional academic achievements across all years of study:

• First-Year Academic Award: Presented to the first-year student with the highest overall academic performance based on mid-year examination results.
• Second-Year Academic Award: Recognizes the second-year student with the best academic performance, evaluated from November and mid-year examination results.
• Third-Year Academic Award: This award is given to third-year students with outstanding overall academic performance based on November and mid-year examination results.

Residence Merit Scholarship

The Residence Merit Scholarship is a monetary award funded by Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 to recognize students who significantly contribute to Hall's life through sports or extracurricular activities. Recipients are nominated by the Hall and contacted directly by the Registrar's Division.

Leadership Award Trophy

This prestigious award is presented by the Division of Student Services and Development to a Hobson Hall student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout the year. The recipient is an inspiring example, regardless of whether they hold a formal leadership position.

Additional Hobson Hall Awards

At the annual Leavers' Dinner, the following awards are presented to deserving students based on recommendations by the Hall Committee:

• Emerging Academic Award: Honours a student with notable academic contributions, such as publishing in peer-reviewed journals or presenting at conferences.
• Engaged Academic Award: Recognizes a postgraduate student who consistently volunteers their time and expertise in community engagement beyond their academic requirements.
• Most Balanced Student Award: Celebrates a student who excels across academics, cultural, spiritual, and sports activities while positively contributing to residence life.
• Sportswoman of the Year Award: Presented to the Hall’s top-performing female athlete, excelling at the first-team, provincial, or national level.

Special Residence Awards

These awards spotlight the unique contributions and qualities of students in Hobson Hall:

• Leadership Award: Presented on the recommendation of the Hobson Hall Residence Managers to a student who exemplifies outstanding leadership within their residence.
• Merit Award: This award is given to a student who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities without holding a formal leadership role and serves as a role model in their house.
• Most Valued Student Award: Recognizes a student who significantly contributes to residence life, fosters community spirit and supports their peers. Contributions may include organizing events, facilitating sports activities, or enhancing the quality of life in the residence.
• Sporting Excellence Award: Awarded to one or more students who achieve excellence in sports within Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 or the broader community.
• Unique Award: Celebrates a student who stands out for their individuality, whether it’s their sense of fashion, humour, care for others, or any other attribute that makes them truly unique.
