Students will develop a critical understanding of Africa from Geographical perspectives through topics that relate to the Continent's complex social, built and physical environments, environmental processes, resources, and social, cultural, economic, and political systems. The specific content depends on the available academic staff's research and teaching interests and will vary from Year to Year. Compulsory field weekends may be a component of the course when the situation allows it.

GOG201 50 %, GOG202 50 %.

DP Requirements:

Over 80 % lecture attendance; attendance and completion of ALL tutorials, assignments and practicals.

Aggregation:

GOG301 and GOG302 can be aggregated for GOG 3 at the discretion of the Head of Department.

Credits:

30 (i.e. a minimum of 300 notional hours)

Marks:

Coursework:  50 %

Exam:  50 %

Examination:

2 Papers, 2 hours each; structure to be communicated in the course.

Sub-Minimum: 

40 % (45 % for aggregation).

Note: There is NO supplementary exam for this course.
