Opeyemi Adeyemi (Yemi) loves Agriculture, and he would have studied Agriculture but during college, his geography teacher mentioned that “Forest is the mother of Agriculture”. So, he decided to go for the mother. Though he enjoyed the forestry programme (especially the field trip modules) during his bachelor’s degree, he pursued environmental science for a master’s degree. Yemi holds a doctoral degree in Forest Science at the 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 of Pretoria, South Africa in 2020, a master’s degree in Sustainable Environmental Management at the 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 of Greenwich, United Kingdom in 2016, and a bachelor’s degree in Forestry (First-Class Hons) from the Federal 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 of Technology Akure, Nigeria in 2014. 

Yemi has interdisciplinary and participatory research experience that covers several areas, including food security, forest products utilization, ecosystem services, biodiversity conservation, forestry education and land-use science. His research activities centre around understanding the management of human-environment interactions to improve ecosystem management and achieve sustainable livelihoods. He is a recipient of several prestigious scholarships, including Commonwealth Scholarship, NRF-TWAS Doctoral Scholarship, 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 of Pretoria Research Bursary, Richard Shuttleworth Remembrance Trust Grant, 2020 UNESCO MAB Young Scientist Award, to mention a few.

In addition to his research activities, he has also gained practical experience in international policy and gained multicultural exposures through consultancy jobs, fellowships, internships with the European Forest Institute (EFI), International Union of Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Yemi works with Professor Charlie Shackleton, seeking to understand the practice of harvesting or gathering raw biological resources within urban and peri-urban landscapes.
