Current project:

‘“Rwanda cannot be exorcised”: Representations of Trauma in Selected Films and Novels on the Rwandan Genocide’. Her research aims to examine the depictions of trauma before, during and after the 1994 Rwandan genocide. In particular, she focuses on prioritising Rwandan voices which are often silenced by better established foreign cinematic and textual narratives. In doing so, she seeks to place the genocide in its particular historical framework by focusing on Rwanda’s specific colonial and postcolonial ideologies, reading the country’s continued personal and collective traumas as inextricably linked with its colonial past.
