ProCyD: Information security meets sustainability

The ProCyD (Professionalization and Digitalization) Project aims to develop and implement digital platforms to enhance cybersecurity and data protection training across Southern Africa, focusing on Mozambique and South Africa, to support digital transformation in these countries. The ELRC’s role in this project is to ensure that digitalisation and training incorporate sustainability principles to align the digital transformation with sustainability goals.

The digital transformation is a challenge that all countries around the world must face. Digitalisation needs IT security and people who, based on knowledge in both data security and data protection, can realistically assess the benefits and risks that accompany this transformation.

The project intends to make a significant contribution here by designing a range of relevant courses. By incorporating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into online training, ProCyD ensures that the digital skills taught through the project contribute not only to technical advancements but also to social and environmental responsibility. ESD also helps guide the ethical use of technology, promoting practices that are aligned with sustainable development goals.A logo saying 'ProCyd'

Online Training in Cybersecurity and Sustainability

The plan is to design and implement courses at different levels: A course for a general basic qualification that aims to raise awareness about the relevance of data protection and cybersecurity and to provide basic knowledge in these fields, as well as more advanced study programmes at bachelor’s and master’s level.

To address the challenge that the partner institutions from Mozambique lack qualified teaching staff in the targeted subject areas, we plan a pilot master’s programme with semesters abroad at Masaryk 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 in Czech Republic within the project runtime. The partner institutions can send selected participants for this masters’ programme. This will create an initial pool of specialists as well as lecturers, which will ensure the sustainability of the project results.

The ELRC plays a key role in the ProCyD Project by developing course materials for an introductory course on ESD and digitalisation to be delivered as part of a graduate semester course.

Additionally, the ELRC will host an Online Summer School training session on ESD Digitalisation, online co-engaged active learning, and STEAM as a curriculum innovation. This will equip lecturers and project team members from various universities involved in ProCyD with the knowledge and skills to incorporate ESD into their digital transformation strategies.

The Summer School Programme takes place online from 22 November to 29 November 2024.

The objectives of the Summer School are:

  • To understand and analyse the Digital Transformation processes that are needed in Higher Educational Institutes in Southern Africa.
  • To identify the role of STEAM in Higher Educational Institutes as a process to support Institutional Digitalisation.
  • To understand the processes involved in designing a solution-oriented co-engaged learning activity for students by utilising Digital Tool.

This contribution ensures that the digitalisation efforts within ProCyD promote sustainable development, bridging the gap between technology and social, ecological, and economic concerns.
