We sang (amagwijo songs) as we walked out to meet Matthews House. On the Barratt lawns, the first years from the two residences got to know each other and games were played.
Prince Alfred House took part in the annual RU Jamming Competition held during O Week which is organised by the SRC.
A Sports Evening organised by RU Sports Admin took place on the Prospect Field. The participation by our first years was massive, even though it was not compulsory.
The first house event with all the seniors and first years. Exciting! Various games were played.
Stations were set up with different games the students could play. There was also a snack bar set up for everyone, along with a karaoke station.
There was a quiz for science, commerce and humanities, and there were prizes for the top three in each faculty.
It was a 90's themed braai and there were prizes for the best dressed. Music was played and everyone had lots of fun dancing and interacting.
Those in attendance were required to paint or draw anything that to them symbolised what Earth means. Drinks and snacks were served midway through the event. Volunteers presented their creations to others in attendance towards the end of the event.
We unfortunately lost to Hilltop 9. The Prince Alfred players were awarded with certificates for participation.
The theme was “Create your own world and design a look to match that world”. A runway was set up in the common room for the fashion show. The students also played a treasure hunt game and ice cream was served. One of our first year students sang a closing song for the audience.
The wellness talks were started early this year in order to measure the success of these talks and see if they are effective in improving the wellness of students at res. These wellness talks were combined with academic talks, alternating every week. The activities that were included in wellness sessions were yoga, meditation, and general talks about well-being.
On Saturday, the 20th of July 2024, an exciting outdoor exploration took place as the house ventured on a hike in collaboration with College House. The hike led to a place called the Toposcope located within Makhanda. Snacks were served when we arrived at our destination and a few games were played while we appreciated the sunlight, fresh air and a beautiful view of the whole of Makhanda. This was a perfect way to distress from academics and get ready for a new week ahead. It was a beautiful and fun experience that everyone enjoyed and hope to do again soon.
The highly anticipated games night between Prince Alfred House and Salisbury House took place on July 20th, 2024 at Salisbury, and it was an unforgettable evening! The atmosphere was electric, filled with excitement, laughter, and friendly competition as both teams clashed in a variety of thrilling games.
A warm welcome to Salisbury House was made by their Entertainment Representative, Masimbonge. The night then kicked off with a fantastic icebreaker session led by Amahle Mabaso, the Prince Alfred House Entertainment Representative, which got everyone pumped up and ready for action! Due to the large number of participants, the groups were divided into two, each occupying two different common rooms. These rooms were transformed into game stations, featuring an array of exciting activities, including: 30 Seconds, Water in a Cup Challenge, Twister, Musical Chairs, Snakes and Ladders, Jenga and some nostalgic childhood games!
The evening was fueled by a delicious spread of snacks and refreshments, enjoyed by all in a relaxed and social atmosphere. It was wonderful to see new friendships being formed and old ones strengthened, making the night even more special.
Prince Alfred House and Truro House joined forces at Prince Alfred for an unforgettable games night pajama party, and what an incredible night it was! The evening was filled with laughter, friendly competition, and endless fun as we battled it out in board games and karaoke.
The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, with everyone dressed in their comfiest PJs, ready to take on the night. The night kicked off with an icebreaker session led by Amahle Mabaso, Prince Alfred's Entertainment Representative, which got everyone in high spirits and ready for the night ahead. House members from both houses were randomly divided into two teams: Seniors vs First Years, and s series of thrilling games were played between the two teams, including board games that put our skills and teamwork to the test. Delicious snacks, sweet treats, and drinks kept our energy levels high and our competitive spirits fueled throughout the night. The evening culminated in memorable karaoke sessions, with nostalgic songs that had everyone singing along and dancing together.
We are proud to honor our residents who have done something amazing. Our Top Ten Awards celebrate people who have worked hard and achieved great things. We are recognizing their accomplishments and contributions to our Residence. We're happy to see them succeed and look forward to seeing what they do next.
On the 21st of August 30 student volunteers from all the Drostdy Residences went to Noncedo for the school readiness programme which we had prepared activities for. Six activities were presented, two from each of the three residences. The student volunteers also helped paint parts of the building with murals, as well as some wheels and bricks in the playground
On the 22nd of August Noncedo visited Prince Alfred House for a movie and games day. Lots of fun was had and the kids were overjoyed when receiving goodies during this event.
