On Saturday 24 August 2024, Oyama Mzayidume participated in the Kate O’Regan Moot Competition hosted by the Centre of Law and Society at the Wilfred and Jules Kramer Building, UCT. The O’Regan Moot is named after retired Constitutional Court Justice Kate O’Regan and is one of the most prestigious university moot competitions in South Africa. Oyama and her co-counsel mooted against teams from UWC and UFS in the preliminary rounds, before facing Wits in the final round. After making oral submissions before a bench consisting of legal experts, including retired Constitutional Court Justice Albie Sachs and Justice David Unterhalter of the SCA, amongst others, Oyama and her co-counsel were announced as the winners of the Kate O’Regan Moot. Additionally, Oyama won the Best Speaker Award.
