Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship
Social Innovations are being explored globally as a way to address social challenges by implemeting projects that change underlying systemic problems. Social Innovation is also prominantly featured across the 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals. Technology and economic growth play a big role in nurturing social innovation. Developing these sectors can help improve the capacity for social innovativeness in communities.
In Higher Education, social innovation can contribute to Community Engagement initiatives as a way of connecting universities and other stakeholders in development.
Social Innovations are understood as: Novel, contextualised and creative solutions to social challenges, such as poverty and unemployment, that go beyond conventional and traditional solutions, to enact systemic change while being driven by its community resources and assets.
The SI Hub aims to help projects reach their full potential. By providing relevant tools and capacities, we hope to nurture the Social Innovation Ecosystem in Makhanda.
