Shannon-Leigh Landers
Shannon Landers (2021 Writer in Residency with the Residencies for Artists and Writers (RAW) programme, Arts of Africa and Global Souths Research programme, Fine Art Department, Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网, Makhanda/Grahamstown, South Africa) is a PhD candidate and lecturer from the Centre for Culture, Media and Society based at the 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 of KwaZulu Natal. She obtained a BA in Politics and Sociology from Rhodes 老虎机游戏_pt老虎机-平台*官网 and an MA in Media and Cultural Studies from UKZN. Her PhD study explores identity construction and marking memory among Tanzanian transit migrants/stowaways in Durban, South Africa.
Her other research interests include semiotics and myth, representation and subaltern identities. Shannon is also recognised as an African scholar by the International Communicology Institute (ICI) for her contribution to semiotics. Aside from academia, she is a committed community activist and sits on the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) steering committee.
